Who We Are

Operators First.
Investors Always.

Founded in 2009, Succession Capital Partners is a specialty private equity firm built around one core belief: the best way to grow a business is to run it. We are not passive board members issuing directives from afar — we roll up our sleeves alongside the teams we back.

Our deep understanding of family-owned business — the pride, the complexity, the legacy at stake — has enabled us to deliver meaningful results for owners and investors alike across the United States.

We also invest in micro-cap commercial real estate, targeting properties that generate attractive cash yields with a strong emphasis on investment safety.

More About SCP
Private Equity
Leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, and growth equity for family-owned companies with $5M–$50M in revenue. We provide liquidity for retiring owners while preserving the culture and people that built the business.
Real Estate
Micro-cap commercial real estate investments generating attractive cash yields. We apply the same hands-on operational philosophy to our properties as we do to our portfolio companies.
Long-Term Capital
Succession Capital is not a fund. We take a long-term ownership perspective focused on compounding value for the Malone Family Office. Our principals are true operators, not financial engineers.

Founder & Managing Partner
Matt Malone

We are operators. We do not merely sit on boards and issue commands. We run the companies we buy — side by side with the families who built them. That’s what makes every investment personal.

Matt Malone is the Founder and Managing Partner of Succession Capital Partners (“SCP”). Since founding the firm in 2008, he has led more than 50 investments with a singular focus on blue-collar, skilled trade, family-owned businesses.

Mr. Malone is also the Founder and former CEO of Groundworks, North America’s leading foundation services platform. He built the first scaled platform in the category, growing the business to more than 85 locations across the United States and Canada. Through a combination of a merit-based culture, broad employee ownership, innovative technology, and world-class marketing, he led the company’s growth from $27 million in annual revenue to over $1.65 billion in just ten years. In 2023, he sold a controlling interest in Groundworks to KKR, further establishing the company as the industry leader. He continues to serve as Executive Chairman of Groundworks and as an Executive Advisor to KKR across home services and consumer investments.

Prior to Groundworks, Mr. Malone was the Founder and CEO of Shipyard Staffing, a specialized skilled trade staffing company serving the marine industry. With operations in Newport News, Jacksonville, Bremerton, and San Diego, the company became the national leader in marine skilled trade staffing. The business was sold to Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund in 2020.

Earlier, he was the Owner and CEO of Petrochem Recovery Systems, a hazardous waste cleanup and disposal business. He successfully exited the company in 2019 through a sale to Clean Harbors (NYSE: CLH).

Before founding SCP, Mr. Malone served as a Managing Director at Hunt Investment Corporation, the private equity division of Fortune 50’s Ray Hunt. Prior to that, he spent eight years as a Principal at Winston Partners, the Bush Family Office.

Mr. Malone’s investment philosophy is grounded in direct operational involvement. Unlike traditional financial sponsors, he and the SCP team act as true operators—working alongside management teams to drive strategic clarity, operational execution, and long-term value creation.

Our Approach

How We Partner
With Founders

Every investment begins with a conversation about where a business has been — and where it wants to go. Our process is transparent, deliberate, and respectful of the legacy you've built.

01
Initial Conversation
A no-obligation discussion to understand your business, your goals, and whether there's genuine alignment. No bankers, no intermediaries — just a direct conversation.
02
Deep Diligence
We spend time understanding your operations, your team, and your market — not to find problems, but to understand the opportunity. Our diligence is thorough and efficient.
03
Fair Valuation
Straightforward, fair offers based on realistic assumptions. We create structures that work for both parties — not squeezing the last dollar out of a negotiation.
04
Smooth Transition
Employees, customers, and vendors deserve continuity. We work carefully to preserve what matters and add what's missing during every ownership transition.
05
Active Growth
Post-acquisition, we provide strategic, financial, and operational support. We measure our success by your company's growth.
06
Long-Term Commitment
We are long-term partners, not flip artists. Our goal is to build durable companies that create value for employees, customers, and investors over decades — not quarters.
Investment Criteria

Is Your Company
a Good Fit?

We look for well-managed businesses with proven track records, loyal customers, and owners who care about what happens next. If this sounds like you, we'd love to talk.

  • Family-owned or founder-led businesses across the United States
  • Revenue of $2M–$20M with positive EBITDA
  • Industrial, consumer, or general-service businesses — including "blue collar" industries
  • Owner approaching retirement or seeking a succession solution
  • Established operations, loyal customers, and niche market differentiation
  • Open to buyouts, recapitalizations, growth equity, and manager-led search acquisitions
